Cultivating a love for music.

Laura Gonzalez is a professional violinist currently pursuing her Master’s of Music at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music. She began her studies of piano and violin at the age of five in Boca Raton, Florida, and performed as a soloist all throughout her high school career with the North Broward Preparatory School Orchestras.

She earned her Bachelor’s of Music in Violin Performance from Lynn Conservatory, and has taught both privately and as part of the Palm Beach Music Academy for a cumulative teaching experience of 5 years. Her teaching philosophies outline a creative and intuitive approach to music, something she strives to inspire her students to develop.

Her orchestral experience includes participating as concertmaster in the Philadelphia International Music Festival Orchestra and Eastern Music Festival Orchestra for the 2022 and 2023 seasons, and as concertmaster and section member of the Lynn Philharmonia. She has finalized in and won multiple chamber competitions throughout her career, and highlights collaboration through chamber music as one of her greatest strengths.

She studied with international soloist and director of the Greater Miami Youth Symphony Ms. Huifang Chen from 2017 through 2020, with Professor Carol Cole from 2020 through 2026, and now studies with Professor Grigory Kalinovsky at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music

My Teaching Philosophies

I strongly believe in giving my students the technical tools they need to succeed in being as expressive and creative as possible. During instruction, the musical goal is always what we have in mind together, and working together towards that goal in a healthy, constructive way is what I strive for.

I believe in fostering the student’s ability to think critically, avoiding an approach of “telling” the student word-for-word what to do. Instead, I prioritize working through any technical or musical questions together, enabling the student to be independent in the practice room and maximize their practice efficiency.

Most of the student’s time with their instrument will be spent without an instructor present, which is why it is so important for the student to understand how to approach and tackle different roadblocks they may encounter in their pursuit of whatever their musical goal may be.

I value artistry and experimentation in music, and strive to pass along those values to my students. As a teacher, it is my goal and responsibility to help the student build a strong technical foundation upon which they can begin to truly become artists, finding their own musical voice and motivations.
